FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How old do I have to be to join?

At least 16 years old or older.

Do I have to pay for training?

No. The Chalfont Fire Company will pay for all training and provide all equipment.

Are the firefighters paid?

None of our firefighters or fire police are paid. We all donate our time to the community.

Do I have to fight fires if I join?

No. There are many tasks that makes this fire company run, from paying the bills to mowing the lawn, and we always need people to help us out around the station. We also need help when we do fundraisers as well.

How are the firefighters alerted for a call?

We carry special voice pagers that Bucks County sets off. Some of our firefighters also carry alpha-pagers, and we also have the siren on our main station in Chalfont.

When I call 911, where does the call go to?

When you dial 911, the call goes to the dispatch center in Doylestown who dispatches the police, fire and ambulances in Bucks County. Remember, when calling 911, please give the call-taker a full description of the problem and stay on the phone until they tell you to hang up.
